the pink ribbon

race for the cure is very close to my heart. my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1997 and survived for 8 years. in november of 2005, my mom decided she was done with chemo and just wanted to live. she had gone through so much with treatments and medications, she decided to just let go and let God....it was a hard decision to make, but i understood. my mother passed away two days before thanksgiving in 2005. don't be sad though, she's in heaven, and loving life i'm certain! after she passed away i decided i would be a part of the race...looking back i wish i would've started alot sooner but really had no idea what it was all about. so in october of 2007 i ran my first race and it was a great experience. it was so cool to see how many people make themselves a part of the cure. i pray one day there will be a cure and we will stop losing lives in the name of this horrible disease.
this year, my cousins and sister decided to be a part as well, b/c they believe in the cause but also b/c my aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer this year and just went through a double mastectomy. she came through the operation great and is now awaiting her reconstructive surgery....please pray for my aunt and her continued recovery! we know the Lord has her in the palm of His hand!
so i just wanted to share a little of why i run, why you should run and get people involved as well. all the proceeds go to the susan g. kohman foundation which aids in finding a cure for breast cancer....there are thousands of people there, some who have lost loved ones as i have, some who just want to run, and survivors. it's a really cool feeling to be a part of this race and run alongside people who have conquered the cancer and see them cross the finish line....and for some it's not an easy task.
the only thing that's missing is my mom on the sidelines....but i know she's cheering, just with a different view. so here's to my mom, my mother-in-law and my aunt...cancer sucks and we're gonna beat it....one of these days, it will be no more!

So proud of you-that's awesome! You're mom was most certainly proud of you from her view...I'm sure...
